Finally.. had a chance to update my Blog..

The news is I am planning to quit this blog.. guess its time to start something new with a better name.. I hope blogspot does allow me to change the url name, if it does I'll be happy to use the same blog.

Its also time to update my blog template.. what looked really coool for me about an year ago looks so dumb / idiotic / dark :)

Hmm.. finally made up my mind to go and start working in the US.. so hope to have time to update my blog frequently

Had a great weekend.. Saturday went to Half Moon Bay and on Sunday a 250 mile drive to Lake Tahoe. Tahoe was great fun.. with kayaking and speed boats :) Wish it was winter now and could have tried skiing too !

Earthquake ! Today California and me experienced an earthquake measuring 6.0 on richter scale. Lasted for around 10 seconds and could feel the office sway :)... Recollected an incident that happened a couple of years ago.. in chennai at Elnet.

Everyone in the building was out on the street and the best part was everyone was standing right in the middle of Elnet and Tidel (Guess to be crushed when the buildings fall) The sun tv coverage that night was hilarious, with everyone giving their views on the earthquake and what they felt.

The best comment about the earthquake was from a guy who looked visibly shaken.. "Sir.. The earthquake lasted for about 10 mins !" Poor chap .. every second felt like a minute for him...

Back to loneliness...

My apartment mate.. has left to India, will be back in two weeks though :) Managed to send a lot of goodies to home via him. Had a great time searching for chocalates at Costco. Saw some weird and interesting sales.. Got a mp3 player for my dad. A reebok for my bro.. nothing for my mom yet.. :( Wondering what to get her...

This weekend was an interesting one... was a bit free after a long time, so went of to San Francisco for the second time... went to the same Golden Gate bridge, through the same crooked street and drank the same great tasting clam chowder.

Thanks to colleagues and friends also had the opportunity to eat some good indian food.

Sunday was a scary day.. my room mate (Apartment mate ?) dropped a knife which went head first straight into his feet.. Took some time for the bleeding to stop.. So I decided to take over the kitchen yesterday night and prepared some chicken curry and chicken 65 :) It was a great meal accompanied by some good table wine from Safeway

Leaving to the US on thursday night... I was promised that my trip starts at friday.. but damn no tickets :( Thanks to vaithee and my friends at office got a couple of tips on the life in US and what to do and what not to.

Vaithee I definitely wont miss the Hooters pub/restaurant that you recommended :)

Cool blogger now has a cool new interface... Very user friendly too :) Ok I went for my first US visa interview. I got a B1 without much fuss. Dont know if it was because of Nortel networks or UIUC :)

Another interesting thing that happened today was I voted :) I have managed to never miss a chance till now to vote.. and love to see the mess the polling booth officer did to my fingers

Was reading about this cool professor Henrik Wann Jensen the brains behind the algorithms that power the perfect digital skin. His algorithms brought Gollum of Lord of the rings fame to life.

His students have learnt his lessons well. Here is the proof. What ever you see on the above page... yes the whisky bottle and glass, is CGI (Computer generated imaging). This is a small project done by one of his students..

I just now came across sketches by MC Escher.. wooow I just love his work. Just love all of his work in this gallery.

I just cant imagine how he could sketch the wonderful isometric projections, mirror reflections and the wonderful illusions he presents. He scores a perfect 10 both in his Math/Art.

[BTW : His father was a civil engineer and Escher was interested in architecture :)]

I just cant believe it.. Is this chennai ? It is peak summer, we are supposed to be sweating and stinking now :), but every one is wet and feeling cold in office ...

Had a meeting today at 7.30 in the morning... Though it spoiled my sleep, it prevented me from getting wet while coming to office today. The prevailing climate in chennai has taken me 4+ years behind... to my college days. Karunya had plenty of rains and we loved the rains, the karunyan climate. Wish I could do my engineering again... Those absolutely are the best days of my life.

I wish my office was in Tidel, I miss the view of the sea that vaithee gets from his office.

What a night it was !!! Loved yesterday night.. had some heavy showers here in chennai... Got invited to a IIT party and I chose not to miss it.. :) Ok the plan was to go and get a bottle of vodka and so away we went... I and albino were searching and driving in the rain for abt an hour yet found no shops opened... then we realized it was Miladi Nabi (public holiday) !!!

Finally settled down in a cosy chill bar.. chiller because of the wet clothes we were in :) After a beer and some vodka turned back to IIT.. We were dancing in the rain for an hours time and later had some wonderful biriyani, jilabies (damn how to I spell it) and Gulab jamuns ...

Finally woke up at around 4.00 to go home :) This is what I call an ideal night.. the rain, the booze flowing all through the night....

It was rest day yesterday... after many weeks this is the first sunday Im taking off and managed not to switch on the computer for the whole day :) Mum's chicken biriyani was too good that it put me off to sleep the whole day..

Night it rained a bit and hundreds of winged ants entered my room... so was not in a real good mood to sleep in the night... Had to wake up at 2.00 and put on my mosquito net, later it was heaven. Didnt feel like waking up in the morning, the climate was just too good to miss.

Would have almost forgot it today, but once I left my home and crossed the street, remembered the Linux DVD for Vaithee.. Now it lies safely down in my office locker..

Went out with Vaithee for dinner... Learnt how to unlock a Maruthi if u dont have a key :) All u need is a scale and a guru like vaithee next to you.. Hogged on a chicken lasagne and tried out tofu and some vegeterian soup (I have been trying to remember the last time I had tomato soup.... Its been soooo long since I had one :) )

While driving down the beach the FM was screaming out a popular club mix number whose rhythm I liked. After 15 min search on google and amazon found the song and right now listening to it.. Enjoy... Lady hear me tonight - Modjo

I am enjoying my gmail account... What I dont understand is the fuss about GMail and privacy! Gmail dosent have humans reading the mail but programs. It is already done by all email services which offer spam protection. Dont forget you dumb activists a whole lot of techies are laughing out loud at your allegations and if you are soooo bothered about gmail and privacy just dont use it.. :)

Im wondering what day it is today... ? My mail box is filled with mails from many of my friends, with forwards about love and friendship... Some of them are a bit tooo long for me to read through fully... Feel guilty at times when I have to ignore these mails :(

Ok back to the point... Is today the friendship day, or pals day, or some other day, that good old Archies and Hallmarks invented to spike up their card sales ?

I dont know If I have to laugh or cry at the tactics our politicians use during elections.. The poor EVM's (So called Electronic Voting Machines) seem to be the target this time. In Bihar in many polling booths whatever button you press the light glows(and the votes too) for Laloo :)

Even worse, in some tribal areas of Orissa, BJP workers have warned the illiterate people that "If you press any button other than the lotus-marked button, you will get an electric shock. If you do not get an immediate shock while pressing the wrong button, there is every possibility of experiencing pain afterwards. You will get a severe ache in your arm after 15 to 20 days that may incapacitate you. Your hands will swell and you may not be able to go for daily labour". I can imagine which button all illiterate daily wage labourers went for...

My horrible computer desks at office are hurting me really bad... They have a lock pointing out where I place my hand and I have been hurting my palms real bad. Where the hell do designers get these crap ideas... I get reminded of one book I had read about designing Design of Everyday Things.
